Mystic KOA Campground

We have stayed at a couple KOA’s and always enjoyed them. When planning our August vacation we had difficulty finding a place to stay and did not want to spend several hundred dollars a night. We do not spend much time where we stay therefore we do not like to break the bank on lodging.

We initially wanted to go to Cape Cod, but after not being able to find affordable lodging we expanded our search and that is when I found a cabin at Mystic KOA. It was perfect for our vacation needs.

Mystic KOA is located in North Stonington, CT putting you within 20 minutes from Mystic CT and just a few minutes from the Rhode Island border. We rented a Camping Cabin, which is a one room cabin with a full-size bed, bunk beds, mini fridge, small TV, porch swing, picnic table and fire ring. We had to bring our own bedding and brought a mattress pad for extra comfort.

The bathrooms were directly across from our cabin, they were outdated, but fairly clean. The campground had a lot of activities from events on the weekend, fishing pond, pool, playground, large slides, mini golf and jumping pillow. I even got on the jumping pillow and it was pretty fun

With the campground being centrally located we were able to do different day trips during our stay.

Our day trips included:

  • Block Island

  • Foxwoods

  • Gillette Castle

  • Long Island/ NYC

  • Mohegan Sun

  • Watch Hill

When reading reviews of KOA Mystic one of the biggest complaints was noise from the highway. We sat outside several nights and could only faintly hear the highway. It was not anything that impacted our stay.

Overall, we really liked Mystic KOA, the cabin was comfortable and fit our needs. The location was perfect for our adventurous lifestyle.
